Mexico-born fashion photographer Tania Quintanilla mastered her craft at the famed Brooks Institute of Photography and has been tearing it up from coast-to-coast ever since. After cutting her chops in the South Beach/Miami high-fashion scene, she relocated to Austin, where she has been busy shooting magazine covers, fashion editorials, commercial assignments, award-winning hair stories and more.
Q: What did you enjoy most about your first shoot for AW?
A: Working with AW was such a joy because of its happy team. I really felt that we were all working together for the greater good. The crew was smart and quick and really helpful. Everyone got involved in the concept and execution. It was a breeze, a really cool and refreshing breeze.
Q: What surprised you most about cover woman and designer Linda Asaf?
A: I was surprised at how good Linda Asaf was in front of the camera. She was a natural model and a joy to photograph. Her smile is electric and she knows how to use it..
Q: Where do you get your fashion inspiration?
A: I often get my fashion inspiration from music videos and trendy friends. Personally, I love to people watch. Austin has such great fashion, I love to go out on the town and take mental notes on what I think would look great on me. As for my fashion shoots, I look to fashion shows, magazines and music video.
Q: Describe your daily style or favorite outfit
A: My favorite outfit right now is my knee-high, black, flat boots with a gold zipper on the side, a pair of dark blue skinny jeans, an oversized t-shirt and a blue blazer. Oh, and don’t forget the scarf. It’s sexy, comfortable and flattering to my body. I feel confident which is most important.
Q: Any favorite designers?
A: My favorite designers right now are Giambattista Valli (for 50’s-inspired ready-to-wear), Phillip Lim (he uses luxury fabrics that I love), and Oscar de la Renta is an all-time fave. His new fall ready-to-wear collection is to die for.
